I always love hosting a girls night whether its watching a chick flick, doing facial masks, or just hanging out and catching up. And as the hostess you always have to be prepared with drinks and snacks. In my case this means having the cutest food spread such as a decadent charcuterie board, and of course having a girly frilly drink. But you want and neeeed it to be super easy to prepare because no one has time to get crazy for a simple girls night. I have found the perfect solution and its a girls night gin & tonic.
I recently did a collaboration with Empress 1908 Gin and wow did I fall in love! I’ve already bought another bottle ha. The one thing I love about Empress 1908 Gin is the color! In pure liquor form it is a deep dark purple, but when you add tonic or soda, the color transforms into the prettiest light purple, pink color. Which is perfect for a girls night in. I made these easy yet over the top gin and tonics by using the following:
2 oz Empress 1908 Gin
1 bottle of Fever Tree Tonic
Garnish with edible flowers from Whole Foods
Fever Tree also has some flavored tonics such as Elderflower or Cucumber that could even be fun to try. I love how easy it is and yet still looks cute.
Looking forward into a brand new year and decade starting with 2020 definitely causes me to reflect on the past and be hopeful for the future. However, this year, instead of making new years resolutions that, lets be honest, are forgotten about with a few weeks or months, I wanted to create some meaningful growth within myself these next few months. So I am sharing the top 5 habits I want to keep and grow over the next year for 2020.
1. invest in meaningful relationships
Having moved to Los Angeles and not knowing a soul, I really had to begin investing in meaningful relationships to help me grow and enjoy company. This 2020 I want to continue to invest in my relationship with my husband to continue to create a deeper bond and love for one another. Also, last year I had the opportunity to have some quality time and trips with family and friends that meant so much to me. This year, I want to continue to put in the effort to make these connections happen whether it's through Face Time calls or planning a weekend trip to visit.
2. healthy mind and body
Towards the last half of last year I began being conscious of what I was putting in my body and just being aware of the junk I was eating. I also started having a semi consistent workout routine. By investing in a healthy body by going hiking, eating healthy, and doing a routine workout, I started to feel better about myself and have more energy. I also want to continue to not only have a healthy body but also have a healthy mind. So in 2020 I want to have the ability to actually state when I need "me time" or learn to slow down and unwind when needed. Having this balance is important to being present in the moment and soaking all of what life has to offer in.
3. become a boss babe
I currently love my job as a quality engineer and the fact that I can truly make a difference in my company and to children all around the world (fyi I work at a toy company, Mattel). It is so satisfying to see yourself succeed and be good at something while making an impact. I also want to continue to be an influence with my blog Fashion + Freckles to create meaningful content. In 2019, I defined myself as a brand and my goals in the post here . So for 2020, I want to actually continue to live up to those goals and potentials. Work smarter, not harder!
4. become cultured
I am obsessed with learning new things, cultures, and just exploring how people live their lives. While I already have an ongoing list of places I want to travel to in 2020, becoming cultured doesn't mean you have to travel across the globe. I want to continue to explore my neighborhood and city, by checking out those local restaurants and bars or museums I've been dying to go to. Just broadening myself with experiences around me. Also a really big one for 2020 that I kind of started in 2019 but didn't really stick to it is to learn French... eek. This is a big one!
5. achieve authenticity and gratitude
For 2020, I want to continue to be real and authentic, but even more so! I think creating the vulnerability to show the world who you are really creates growth and positivity in your life. And to always have a heart of gratitude because I have so much to be thankful for.
so cheers to 2020!
