neutral basics

Neutrals doesn't just mean blah brown. Neutrals are just a basic color pallet consisting of light and muted tones that complement each other well. Building your closet using neutrals as a foundation allows for more outfits and an easier way to wear your style. Ever wonder into your closet and stand there thinking, "I have absolutely nothing to wear" even though your clothes are busting out the closet doors? I caught myself saying this a lot and realized the reason I thought I had nothing to wear is because many of my pieces were one time statement pieces that had to be worn and accessorized a specific way. Or it was such an odd color that it was hard to pair it with anything else to make a different look. This ultimately hindered my options to mix and match with the rest of my wardrobe. I started last year to begin building my closet with neutral basics and the below neutral tons are what I chose to stick with. And of course, once you have a good neutral foundation of clothes, add some pop pieces (accessories are always a good option to shine).

blush & rose

I chose pink tones because for one, I love these blush and rose tones. I even used them as our wedding colors. But two, they add a feminine and flirty side to my wardrobe. Stay towards the more muted pinks as these can be paired well.

Top picks below:

tan & brown

Deeper shades of tan and brown are the foundation of this neutral pallet. They will provide grounding and shape how you pair outfits together by mixing and matching to warm and rich tones. Be aware of your skin tone as to pick colors that complement, not drown you out,

cream & white

Cream and white tones will be the lightest end of the spectrum for your clothing pieces. I typically use these colors more in spring and summer time but do enjoy the occasional white winter look. It's easy to find casual pieces in these tones.

Top picks below:

green

Green, like pink is another one of those colors that I am drawn to and also helps add a little pop to an outfit. Green complements just about every skin tone and hair color. Just find the right shade for you and stick to it.

gray & black

Gray and black tones will be the darkest colors in your neutral wardrobe pallet. I typically steer towards these colors in the winter time because of the cold and sometimes dreary days. These colors are also good for night out and party outfits. I also am drawn to accessories and shoes in these colors as well.

Top picks below:

blue & denim

Of course denim is probably a staple within your wardrobe, so it is a part of this "blue" category. I Also like to go for dark navy or light blue in the spring/summer to keep a neutral feel. Stay clear of bright and neon blues that might be difficult to mix and match with other items in your closet as a basic piece.
